What is Academic Speaking? Why is it Important?

Hello guys! Let me introduce myself, my name is Puput Nur Kholifah from University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa, and my student ID is 2223210003. Alright, let me ask you, what is your opinion about academic speaking? It is only about speaking or we can combined speaking and also academic when we speak in front of many people? 😦

At the first meeting of the academic speaking course, I learned to be able to convey things related to academic speaking. I also heard various opinions from friends related to the academic speaking definition. In my opinion, academic speaking is the ability to speak in front of many people and convey information with knowledge so that other people will know and learn about it. Academic speaking is mostly done by teachers and lecturers to convey material in class to students. Academic speaking is a speaking skill that must be possessed by us as prospective teachers. At the first meeting, we also learned what things are in academic speaking and how to grow our confidence when speaking in front of large groups of people. 

The use of academic speaking is usually related to language and material that is more difficult than when we speak normally. Academic speaking is designed to improve students' speaking skills, especially as part of English education. We can use academic speaking in presentations, seminars, debates and also tutorials. We can share the knowledge and information we have using academic speaking. Therefore, academic speaking is important to learn. We can learn how to improve our academic speaking skills. First, you can provide comprehensive input for English learners. The knowledge or information that we convey using academic speaking will make the audience understand more about the path of delivering the information that we convey.

So the conclusion about the definition of academic speaking and also the reasons why academic speaking is important is that academic speaking is the ability to speak that must be mastered by all prospective teachers, especially English teachers, because with academic speaking we can convey knowledge or knowledge to students in class correctly and clearly. With academic speaking, we can provide knowledge more formally and based on the sources we already have.
